Medeama SC were held at home to 1-1 drawn game against Asante Kotoko at the Tarkwa na Aboso Stadium in the week 16 of the Ghana Premier League.on Sunday, January 8, 2025.
The visitors scored first on the 44th minute through Kwame Poku to end the first half in their favour in what could be described as a hotly battled end-to-end action, with both sides creating decent chances and entertaining the spectators.
Kotoko looked more daring in the first half, without the Mauves being a bit conservative and cleaning up spaces in defence until the eventual breakthrough for Kotoko through a connecting header from the right side of their attack.
Coach Adotey’s charges returned from the dressing room energized and hungrier, with three quick substitutions to avenge their opponents, as all three attackers that started, Andy Kumi, Babil and Derrick Fordjour were all withdrawn and replaced by Ebenezer Ackahbi, Kingsley Braye and Bernardino Osah Tetteh took their places 11 minutes into the second half.
The tempo of the game was kept rising, as both sides showed resilience and readiness to pick the maximum points at stake, with Medeama chasing from behind.
Medeama got a breakthrough on the 67th minute through a buildup from the right initiated by defender Kamaradini Mamudu, who was deployed in a more advanced role, and converted into a perfect goal scoring opportunity by nimble-footed Prince Owusu, tearing apart Kotoko’s left back to located the initiator, Kamaradini Mamudu to slot home a much awaited equaliser.
The search for the kill continued from both sides but the goalkeepers stood tall to prevent a third game in the game, with Felix Kyei pulling some impressive double saves in the 80th minute. Skipper Kofi Asmah gave way for Azaria Fordjour to tighten up loose ends in the Medeama middle.
The game ended one all, with Nurudeen Abdulai emerging the MVP of the day.
