Berekum Chelsea beat Medeama SC 2-0 in the second game of the GHALCA G6 tournament at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday as they open their Group B account on a bright note.
An early strike from Shaibu Haruna and a header from Mensah Afriyie in the second half ensured the Bibires claimed the maximum points of the match.
Chelsea proved too strong for the Yellow and Mauves as they dominated the game from start to finish.
Haruna opened the scoring of the match with a beautiful curler inside the box to put Chelsea ahead in the 6th minute. Medeama goalkeeper Appiah Kubi was hapless.
Medeama came close twice in the first half but efforts from Joshua Agyemang and Zakaria Mumuni couldn’t beat goalkeeper Gregory Obeng Sekyere as he made two decent saves in the process.
Afriyie’s low carpet drive was denied by the framework in the 50th minute preventing Chelsea a second goal.
Chelsea increased their advantage in the 70th minute from a Afriyie’s header to make it 2-0.
The pre-season tournament conti on Sunday when Great Olympics face off with Karela United with Hearts of Oak up against Medeama in a late fixture.
