Medeama Sporting Club’s head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has expressed his satisfaction with his time at the club during an insightful interview on Medeamaa 92.9 FM, a media outlet under the Mospacka Group of Companies, owned by club president Mr. Moses Armah. Speaking on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Coach Tanko reviewed his half-season stint, praising the working environment and the dedication of the club’s staff and players.

Coach Tanko joined Medeama in January 2025, midway through the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, taking over from technical director Evans Adotey, who had stepped in as interim head coach following the departure of previous head coach Nebojsa Kapor. Signed to a two-and-a-half-year contract, Tanko’s arrival marked a new chapter for the Mauve and Yellow, and his comments on Medeamaa 92.9 FM reflect a positive experience.

“I have enjoyed my working relationship with the ranks and files at Medeama and the working environment this half season as head coach of the club, from the Club President, Mr Armah, whom I have had a long standing relationship with even before joining Medeama to the management, technical team led by the technical director, Coach Adotey, the playing body, and ultimately how the supporters have received and accepted me here in Tarkwa,” Coach Tanko revealed during the interview. His words underscore the collaborative spirit and professionalism he has encountered at the TnA Stadium, a sentiment that resonates with the club’s commitment to fostering a supportive and ambitious atmosphere.

A Mid-Season challenge

Since taking the helm, Coach Tanko has guided Medeama through a challenging period, finishing 8th on the GPL and missing out on the MTN FA Cup, a departure from the club’s target of ending the season with at least a trophy. His leadership has been instrumental in steadying the ship following Kapor’s exit and Adotey’s interim role evident in team confidence and quality football, creating a home invincibility except for the 2-1 defeat to Berekum Chelsea on the final match of the season at the TnA Stadium. Notable highlights crucial comebacks against Bechem United, Aduana FC, and Basake Holy Stars, include a 3-0 home win over Young Apostles, showcasing the team’s resilience and tactical evolution under his guidance.

Tanko’s approach has emphasized unity and performance, as he noted, “The players have responded well to the demands of the game by coming out of their shells, and the technical staff have been exceptional in their support. Together, we’ve worked to build on the foundation laid earlier in the season, which we hope to build on next season to fight for trophies.” His focus on teamwork and strategic planning has been evident in Medeama’s recent performances, particularly in their ability to compete and control games.

The interview on Medeamaa 92.9 FM also touched on the club’s community engagement and the role of the club supporters and UMaT Blasters, Medeama’s passionate supporters. “The fans have been our strength,” Tanko added. “Their energy, both at the stadium and online, has been a driving force for us. We’re grateful for their unwavering support.”

Looking Ahead

Coach Tanko’s positive outlook sets the tone for these challenges: “Every game is an opportunity to grow and improve. We’re focused on finishing strong and building momentum for the next season.”
