Medeama Sporting Club suffered a 1-0 loss to Hearts of Oak in a tightly contested Ghana Premier League Week 25 clash at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Despite a spirited performance and a strong push for an equalizer, the Mauve and Yellow couldn’t overcome an early strike from Hearts’ Raphael Amponsah, ending their two-game winning streak.
First Half: An Early Setback
The match kicked off at 3:00 PM with both sides showing intent in a balanced opening spell. By the 13th minute, Medeama had settled into the game, creating good chances while maintaining composure at the back alongside Hearts. However, the tide turned in the 22nd minute when Amponsah unleashed a stunning long-range effort to put Hearts ahead 1-0. Medeama responded with vigor, as Kelvin Nkrumah made dangerous runs in search of a leveling goal. Despite their efforts, the score remained 1-0 at halftime, with Hearts holding a slender lead.
Second Half: A Valiant Effort Falls Short
Medeama emerged from the break with renewed purpose, introducing Kyei, Braye, and Fordjour in the 46th minute for Jabal Adams, Richard, and Michael Sarpong to shift the momentum. Kelvin continued to threaten Hearts’ defense, however, the Phobians’ backline, bolstered by goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, stood firm. Hearts nearly doubled their lead in the 75th minute when Amponsah struck again, only to be denied by a resilient Medeama rearguard. Despite late pressure, the Mauve and Yellow couldn’t find the net, and the game ended 1-0.
The defeat drops Medeama to 6th in the GPL standings with 38 points, halting their resurgence after wins over Aduana FC (2-0) and Basake Holy Stars (2-1).
Medeama’s focus now shifts to their next fixture, with the team determined to bounce back and reclaim their winning form.
