Medeama SC suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Nations FC in a hard-fought Ghana Premier League Matchday 24 encounter at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday. Despite a spirited performance, the Mauve and Yellow couldn’t hold off a late surge from the hosts, who secured the victory in the closing stages.
The match started with Nations FC taking the lead in the 33rd minute, as Razak Simpson’s superb free-kick put the home side ahead 1-0. Medeama battled back after the break, equalizing in the 71st minute through a well-executed move following substitutions of Emmanuel Appiah and Kelvin Nkrumah for Fordjour and Tetteh.
However, the joy was short-lived, as Faisal Charwetey restored Nations’ lead in the 78th minute, capitalizing on a Yaw Annor cross to make it 2-1. Despite late changes, including Babil Amoah replacing Godknows Dzakpasu in the 80th minute, Medeama couldn’t find a second equalizer, and Nations held firm until the final whistle.
The loss ends Medeama’s two-game winning streak in the Ghana Premier League, leaving them to regroup ahead of their next fixture away to Samartex 1996 on Wednesday at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena at Samreboi.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko praised the team’s effort but rued missed opportunities: “We fought hard, but it wasn’t enough today. We’ll bounce back stronger.”
Medeama SC now turn their focus to the upcoming challenges, determined to reclaim their winning form.
