March 05, 2025 – Medeama Sporting Club has received a significant boost ahead of the resumption of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), as the Tarkwa na Aboso Stadium (TnA Stadium) has been granted unconditional approval by the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Club Licensing Department to host top-flight matches. The decision follows a rigorous Security Assurance Inspection conducted by the GFA between February 25 and February 27, 2025, aimed at ensuring compliance with the newly introduced Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025.
The GFA’s inspection exercise, which covered 15 GPL venues, was part of a broader initiative to enhance safety and security at match centers across the country. Prompted by a tragic incident on February 2, 2025, where a supporter lost their life during a league match, the GFA suspended GPL activities and rolled out the enhanced protocols to prevent future occurrences. The inspections focused on critical areas such as the state of the playing field, inner perimeter fencing, seating capacity, dressing rooms, safe zone areas, external walling, and safe entry and exit points—all in line with the minimum requirements for Category 3 matches as outlined in the GFA Stadium Directives.
Medeama SC’s proactive approach to meeting these standards was evident when the club hosted a security workshop on February 20, 2025, at the TnA Stadium. Led by Administrative Manager McDavid Asare, the session brought together representatives from the Tarkwa Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), club stewards, and supporters’ group leaders to discuss and align with the GFA’s new safety measures. The club and the MUSEC demonstrated their commitment to walking the talk with the number of security personnel deployed by the various security units when Medeama hosted PAC Academy in the MTN FA Cup round 16 clash in Tarkwa on February 23, 2025.
The Club Licensing Department’s inspection report confirmed that the TnA Stadium met all necessary technical and security criteria, earning it unconditional approval to host GPL matches. This green light positions Medeama SC to welcome fans back to the 10,400-seater venue. The stadium’s approval underscores Medeama’s dedication to upholding the GFA’s safety standards and providing a haven for players, officials, and supporters.
As the GPL resumes, Medeama SC can focus on its on-field ambitions, buoyed by the confidence that its home ground is security-assured with the GFA’s enhanced protocols. The club’s efforts serve as a model for others in the league, reinforcing the collective push to make Ghanaian football safer and more enjoyable for all stakeholders. With the TnA Stadium ready to roar, Medeama fans can look forward to cheering their team on in a venue that prioritizes both passion and protection.
