Medeama Sporting Club needed post-match penalty shootouts at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena at Samreboi to cement their superiority over Nsuopun Fidelity FC in the MTN FA Cup round 32 after the two-times competition champions were held to a 1-1 draw in regulatory time.
Coach Evans Adotey capitalised on the occasion to rest some of his regulars and gave the likes of Sampson Ekyem and Azaria Fordjour, who have not seen much action this season, game time.
The game started on a low tempo with both sides keeping close tabs on each other until Medeama tested Nsuopun Fidelity’s pause on the 12th minute throw Fatawu Sulemana’s run but could not break out the hosts.
With a gradual rise in the game’s intensity with hard tackles, Medeama’s Sampson Ekyem went into the referee’s book for a yellow card. With no goal to show for it, the first half of the game ended.
Coach Adotey brought out Sampson Ekyem for Ebenezer Ackhabi to take his place in the 56th minute and introduced Bashiru Sadat and Richard Dwumah minutes later, taking out Fatawu Sulemana and Prince Owusu respectively.
The hosts, Nsuopon Fidelity took the lead 69 minutes into the game but Medeama Sporting Club responded 6 minutes later through a direct corner at corner from substitute Sadat Bashiru.
Striker Andy Kumi was introduced in the game for Nana Kofi Babil in a quest to cause last-minute damage to the Division Two side yet, no further goals could be witnessed after three additional minutes to the regulatory time. The game was pushed to penalties.
All Medeama SC penalty kickers, Mubarik Yussif, Kwabena Amoah, Felix Kyei, and Emmanuel Cudjoe scored from the spot, with goalkeeper Felix Kyei saving the second Nsuopon Fidelity’s kick and their 4th was missed to end the shootouts at 4-2 advantage the Mauve and Yellows.
The Tarkwa-based former FA Cup Champions have booked their slot in round 16 and will learn their opponents at a later date when the next round draw is held.
