Medeama Sporting Club were held to a second consecutive goalless draw at home against close neighbours, FC Samartex 1996 the numerous chances created in a game which could be described as total dominance by the Mauve and Yellows.
The Tarkwa based side dictated the pace and controlled the game from the blast of referee Charles Bulu’s whistle to kick the match in motion to the last minute, creating decent goal-scoring opportunities but could not convert any to goal.
Medeama continues to suffer in the treatment room as every game played this season has seen a player or two being subbed in varying degree of injury; Prince Owusu being the latest casualty.
First half:
The first half was keenly contested with both side displaying quality passing and positive intents to score, with Medeama Sporting Club coming more closer with deadly attacking threats, particularly with swift wing plays but wasteful in front of goal. Midfielder, Prince Owusu had to be forced off the field after dislocating his elbow resulting from a challenge in the air and was replaced by Nana Kofi Babil, whose introduction saw Medeama’s ball progression and mobility increase in tempo.
Second half:
Coach Kapor introduced Azaria Fordjour right before the second half kicked off in place of Godknows Dzakpasu to continue from where the team left off but this time would play most of the balls in the half of Samartex, who sat deep in anticipation for counter attacks.
Medeama’s goalie, Appiah Kubi was virtually on holiday for the entire duration of the second half, influencing Coach Kapor’s tactics to throw in more attacking minded players. Attacker, Braye Kingsley was handed his premier League debut, replacing Fordjour Derrick, with Bernardinho Tetteh coming on for Boison. Right back Kamaradini Mamudu also entire majority of the minutes in the second half in the opponents attacking third, coming so close on several occasions but non of the chances could be converted to goals.
Left back, Fatawu Sulemana was also subbed with an attacker, Quaison, popularly referred to as Chibsah but could not break down Samartex who were resolute in defense, leaving the game goalless at full time.
Medeama remains unbeaten after five round of matches and are level on points Kotoko and Gold Stars at the apex of the GPL, 11 points each. The team will travel to Bechem on Sunday to play Bechem United in the week 6 fixture.
Coach Kapor’s reaction after the match – The gaffer expressed disappointments with the multiple chances ruined on the night but drew a lot of positives from the quality of play, his side’s ability to create a lot of scoring opportunities, the pressing to get keep his opponents in their half and not conceding goals. He assured his side will keep working to ensure his player remain calm in front of goal to convert the chances created to goals.
Kamaradini Mamudu – The right back was voted the Most Valuable Player of the match and was presented with his MotM souvenirs. In his reaction, the club’s top scorer shared in the pain of the teeming supporters who came in their numbers to cheer the team on but admonished they remain calm and rally behind the team, as they a re committed to their mandate to bring the GPL trophy to Tarkwa, with a strong sure words of not returning from Bechem without a point.
