Medeama Sporting Club extended its winning streak to the start of the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League season to three victories out of three games following a 2-1 victory away to Basake Holy Stars at the Aiyinase C.A.M Park on Sunday courtesy defender, Kamaradini Mamudu and and the former Aiyinase star boy, Diawisie Taylor in the 57th and 64th minute respectively with Holy Stars getting a consolation 59 minutes into the game.

MATCH OVERVIEW

First Half:

Holy Stars set the match in motion with both sides coming in with high intensity. Medeama SC go the first on slot in the 3rd minute at goal but turned into a counter for Holy Stars, forcing a timely save from Medeama goalie, Appiah Kubi, who eventually had a knock on his leg but not enough to put him out of the game.

Bernardinho Tetteh masterpieces of skills followed by a long drive with his favorite left foot in the 8th minute was dealt with beautifully to win Medeama the first corner of the afternoon. Holy Stars came in strongly dictating most of the possession and showing intents to get the first goal on the 12th, 14th, 17th and 20th minutes but all efforts could not count, as Medeama defense led by Emmanuel Cudjoe dealt with most aerial balls and Kubi also coming to the rescue of the Mauve and Yellows. Medeama had their share of the fair chances and counter plays on the 19th, 34th and 39th minutes but not enough efforts to find the back of the net.

The first half ended with neither of the teams recording a goal, having played 4 additional minutes.

Second Half:

Medeama Sporting Club started the second half on a high note threatening the opponents goal area but Holy Stars remained resolute at their rare until the 57th minute when Derrick Fordjour and Fatawu Sulemana combo move found defender Kamaradini, who was stationed in an advanced position to record the first goal of the day and his personal second goal of the season, taking off from where he ended last season as the club’s top scorer.

Not a log moment for the Tarkwa giants to celebrate, Holy Stars responded swiftly with a fabulous free kick two minutes after Medeama’s goal. The intensity and tempo of the game reduced with both team resulting to passing and trying to some counter attacking. Holy Stars threw in three substitutions and was countered by Coach Kapor who also pulled out Bernardinho and Nana Kofi Babil, bringing on Boison and Godfred Abban.

The “We Never Give Up” side restored their lead through a super strike from the “King of Aiyinase CAM Park”, Diawisie Taylor on the 64th minute, with Kamaradini providing the assist. Coach Kapor pulled out Dzapkasu and Fordjour, bring on Manuel Mantey and Quaison to control the game and ultimately win the day for Medeama at 2-1.

Medeama now leads the park with 9 points after three games in the Ghana Premier League. The team will play Heart of Lions on Saturday in the Matchday 5 and Samartex on October 9 to complete the five rounds of matches.

Diawisie Taylor was full of joy to score his first goal of the season at the venue which shot him into greatness. “I can say the game was not easy coming to CAM Park but with determination, good training, and motivation from our Director and supporters, it helped us to fetch the three points. I was seriously happy to score the goal I told myself prior to the game that this is my home grounds, where I have played. So I told myself that I need to score.”
