The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. George Mireku Duker on Tuesday evening met with the entire SC Medeama supporters groups.
The meeting which took place at the New Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium outlined the grand scheme by the Deputy Minister to see Tarkwa and particularly Medeama Sporting Club, which is the only premier league side within the constitution to reap the full benefit of the Gold Field Ghana Foundation’s magnificent project for the people of Tarkwa.
Hon Duker started his opening remarks on the need for all hands to be on deck with singular sense of purpose, which is Medeama SC first, while stressing on the importance of zero tolerance for party politics within the group.
“Football has come to stay especially with this stadium in place and when it comes to supporting Medeama which is the only premier league side in Tarkwa, all political colors and party politics must go to sleep. We should see each other as a friend or brother and not an enemy just because you follow one politician or the other. Hon. DJ, who was the parliamentary candidate and my political opponent and I share ideas when it comes to Medeama matters,” said the deputy minister, Hon. Duker.
Hon. Duker also outlined some stringent measures he has on a round table had with the President of the club, Mr Moses Armah, popularly referred to as “The Don” among the supporter, who was also present at the meeting. Among them included;
- The need for the supporters to adopt a particular stand within the stadium, where the core of the supporters will be stationed with 90 minutes of singing, drumming and cheers to motivate the team and also create an intimidating atmosphere for visitors.
- Supporters leadership mapping up a massive outreach at the various communities to draw more following for the club.
- The need for supporters to avoid raining insults on players when the going get tough during matches; among others.
- The need for the club to get a new anthem which will be common and easy for the lips of supporters. This called for an open offer to any supporter who can compose a befitting anthem for the club, preferably in local dialect and a prize given to the person whose anthem will be selected.
The President of the Club, Mr Moses Armah also gave assurances of his commitment to supporting the supporters groups and also hinted that plans are in place to see musical artistes invited to the TnA Stadium on matchdays to lighten up the stadium in no time.
The Brand and Marketing Manager, Kofi Aidoo took his turn to hammer of the sales of the season tickets and encouraged the supporters to buy into the idea by subscribing to the platform.
The deputy minister also took the opportunity to address some concerns from the supporters, together with the club president, Mospacka in a meeting which was extremely successful for its intended purpose.
Also present at the meeting was the Vice CEO of Medeama SC, Mr Alfred Kojo Owusu, and members of the club’s Communication Department. The meeting presented an opportunity to introduce to the supporters, officials of the Mauve and Yellows.
