Medeama Sporting Club will on Friday, August 16, 2024, open another ninety-minute of soccer hostilities against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the New TnA Stadium to mark the official opening of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation sponsored project.

The match which kicks off at 6pm under floodlights is expected to set the tone for a new football atmosphere in Tarkwa, where supporters will new have the luxury of sitting for the entire duration of matches without having to think about rains and the sun.

Both sides have over the years faced off in several competitions spanning from Ghana Premier Leagues, FA Cups, GHALCA organized competitions, Normalisation Cup but not in a pre-season friendly. The first official off season friendly between these familiar foes couldn’t have been anything of stylish fashion than on a day where Tarkwa welcomes a touch of class and modernity, as far as the football ecosystem is concerned.

Coach Kapor and his technical department would take advantage of this high profile match to measure the level of his team, following our pre-season camping in the Eastern Region of Ghana, where the team engaged lower tier clubs and won all matches; so as to polish rough edges as the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League Season starts soon.

The last time the Yellow and Mauves hosted Asante Kotoko at the then TNA Park, was during the Normalisation Committee’s Special Competition on Thursday, April 4, 2019, where Medeama SC beat the Porcupine Warrior by 1-0 through Kwame Boateng’s 35th minute spot-kick. The two team’s last meeting in Tarkwa was however at the Akoon Community Park was in the Ghana Premier League, matchday 28 which ended 1-1 in April this year.

The grand opening of the Gold Fields finance ultra-modern stadium facility on Friday signifies the end of an era where Medeama SC hosted their opponents on parks (old TNA and Akoon Parks) to transition into playing in front of their teeming supporters in an all-roofed 12000-seater-capacity stadium, New TnA Stadium.
