On Friday morning, before the team’s training session at the Akoon Community Park, the President of Medeama SC, Mr. Moses Armah, officially announced the resignation of Coach Umar Rabbi from his assistant coach role to the players and technical team.

Accompanied by the Vice CEO of the club, Mr. Alfred Owusu, Mr. Armah called on the players to remain united and resolute in pushing the Medeama dream forward, without any loyalty to individuals but the club, as he named caretaker handlers.

According to Moses Armah, the club is in no hurry to appoint a new gaffer but will do a broader consultation and analysis before bringing on new appointees. In the meantime, the fate of the team is entrusted to Coach Stephen Pius Gurah, who has been with the team since the appointment of Umar Rabbi, as well as goalkeeper coach Ben Owu and Mark Nkrumah, who handles the youth side, Rospak FC.

Coach Pius, on behalf of the technical team, accepted the challenge and called for all hands on deck to continue the consistent performance and unbeaten streak the club has enjoyed in the last five Premier League matches.

His first assignment will be on Sunday, as Medeama hosts Berekum Chelsea at the Akoon Park.

Coach Umar Abdul Rabbi tendered his resignation after the club’s away match at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale last Wednesday, in which the Mauve and Yellow came from behind to share spoils with Real Tamale United.

We continue to wish Coach Umar well in his next step.
