Medeama SC’s midfield enforcer, King Archerson faces a tough challenge from left back Benjamin Abaidoo and arguably one of the safest pair of hands in the GPL, Boris Mandjui Jnr, for the club’s player for January.
Medeama SC was involved in 6 matches (4 of which took place at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa and the other two in Ashanti Region, against league leaders, Kotoko and AshantiGold), where the club amassed 11 out of a possible 18 points.
The results of matches played in the month of January are displayed below:
Benjamin Abaidoo, who was crowned the best player for the month of December, played full time in all the 6 matches the club engaged in for the month under review as shown below:
Like Abaidoo, Goalkeeper Boris also featured in all the matches the team was involved in, keeping 4 clean sheets, saving a penalty against Kotoko to deny Kotoko a second goal, and ultimately winning the MVP against the Kumasi-based club at the Baba Yara Stadium. He conceded 2 goals in the process (one away and the other through a goalkeeping blander at home against Berekum Chelsea)
Unlike the duo above, their new competitor in midfield, played full 90 minutes in 5 of the matches and one as a substitute in their away win at Obuasi Len Clay Stadium against AshGold, where he played only 5 minutes.
His instant hit stepping in the shoes of Justice Blay in the heart of midfield to shield the defense and providing that penetrative pass that won the club’s penalty against Hearts of Oak in Tarkwa is worthy of mention; including his ability to read the game and organize the midfield.
The award would be decided on through voting by the club’s players, technical staff, management, supporters and a section of journalists who are regular at the team’s matches and the general public through the club’s website.
Benjamin Abaidoo, who won for the month of December, will receive his award in Medeama’s home game against Dreams FC on Sunday at the Akoon Park.
I am voting for Boris junior as my player of the month jenuary.
