Medeama Sporting Club is thrilled to officially announce the signing of attacking midfielder Usman Safianu on a two-year contract following the expiration of his deal with Hohoe United.
The highly-rated midfielder, who captained Hohoe United during the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, joins the Mauve and Yellow after choosing the Tarkwa-based club despite attracting strong interest from several top-flight sides.
Safianu arrives with an excellent reputation as a technically gifted playmaker blessed with vision, creativity, composure on the ball and the ability to unlock defences. His leadership qualities and attacking intelligence make him another important addition to Coach Ibrahim Tanko's squad as Medeama prepare to defend their Ghana Premier League crown and compete in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
Speaking after completing the move, the midfielder revealed that deciding on his next destination was one of the toughest decisions of his career.
> "This wasn't an easy decision for me and my team. We carefully considered every option because there was genuine interest from some of the biggest clubs in Ghana. It eventually came down to two great institutions— Medeama Sporting Club and one of two most well accomplished clubs in Ghana."
Safianu explained that Medeama's vision, recent achievements and continental ambitions ultimately convinced him to make Tarkwa his new home.
"After several discussions, weighing every option and looking at our ambitions, Medeama stood out. The opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League, the winning culture the club has built, the professionalism around the team and the direction of the project made this the perfect choice for my career. I wanted to be part of something special."
The former Hohoe United captain has promised to repay the confidence shown in him with hard work and commitment.
"I am here to give everything for this badge. I know the expectations that come with wearing the Medeama jersey, and I embrace that challenge wholeheartedly. I want to help the club defend the league title, compete strongly in Africa and bring even more success to the supporters. I can't wait to get started and meet the amazing Medeama family."
Medeama Sporting Club believes Safianu's arrival further strengthens an already formidable squad as the reigning champions continue to reinforce key areas ahead of what promises to be another demanding domestic and continental campaign.
