Medeama Sporting Club has received with profound shock and deep sorrow the tragic news of the passing of Dominic Frimpong of Berekum Chelsea, following a violent armed robbery attack on the team.
The incident, which occurred on the Bibiani–Goaso road, not only claimed the life of a promising talent but also left several players and officials traumatized and injured, highlighting the growing security concerns surrounding team travels.
The entire Medeama family, led by the President, Board of Directors, Management, Technical Team, Playing Body, and our cherished supporters extend our deepest condolences to Berekum Chelsea Football Club, the bereaved family of Dominic Frimpong, and the Ghana Football Association.
This is a painful loss not only to Berekum Chelsea but to the entire Ghanaian football fraternity. At just 20 years old, Frimpong embodied promise, passion, and the future of Ghana football — a life tragically cut short under such distressing circumstances.
As we mourn, we also stand in solidarity with all those affected — the injured, the traumatized, and everyone who experienced the horror of that unfortunate incident.
In light of this tragedy, Medeama Sporting Club respectfully calls on the Ghana Football Association to liaise with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and relevant security agencies to ensure enhanced protection for clubs, particularly during long-distance and night travels. The provision of security escorts for teams will be a crucial step in safeguarding lives and preventing such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
Football must remain a unifying force, not one overshadowed by fear and insecurity.
May the soul of Dominic Frimpong rest in perfect peace, and may strength and comfort be granted to all who mourn him.
Gone too soon. Forever in our hearts.
