Head Coach Ibrahim Tanko has showered praise on goalkeeper Felix Kyei following Medeama Sporting Club’s goalless draw against Swedru All Blacks in Week 24 of the Ghana Premier League.
Despite Medeama’s failure to secure all three points at Swedru — stretching their recent run to four league matches with just one victory — Tanko singled out Kyei for his commanding performance between the posts.
The Medeama shot-stopper produced a series of crucial saves to deny All Blacks, standing firm each time the hosts threatened to break the deadlock. His reflexes and composure ensured the Mauve and Yellows left Swedru with a point.
Speaking during his post-match media engagement, Tanko did not hide his admiration for the goalkeeper’s display.
“If I had my way, Felix Kyei would be in the Black Stars,” the Medeama coach stated when quizzed by journalists who had commended the goalkeeper’s masterclass performance.
Tanko, however, acknowledged that national team selections remain the responsibility of the Ghana Black Stars technical team, led by Coach Otto Addo, expressing respect for their mandate while reaffirming his belief in Kyei’s quality.
Medeama remain top of the Ghana Premier League table, but the race has tightened significantly, with only one point now separating the Mauve and Yellows from second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars.
As the title contest intensifies, Medeama will look to build on the defensive resilience shown in Swedru while rediscovering their attacking sharpness in upcoming fixtures.
