Goalkeeper Felix Kyei delivered a match-winning performance as Medeama Sporting Club defeated close neighbours FC Samartex 1996 on penalties to secure qualification to the MTN FA Cup quarter-finals at the TnA Stadium on Saturday.

After a fiercely contested encounter ended goalless in regulation time, the Round of 16 tie was decided via penalty shootout, where Medeama held their nerve to claim a 4–2 victory.

The defining moment belonged to Kyei, who first produced a crucial save to swing the shootout in Medeama’s favour before confidently stepping up to convert the club’s decisive kick with an audacious Panenka, sealing progression in style in front of the home supporters.

Speaking after the match, the Medeama shot stopper reiterated the squad’s ambition for the season while emphasizing the importance of staying grounded.

“We aim to win every competition we are competing for this season, but we want to take it one match at a time with all seriousness and commitment as players,” Kyei stated.

The encounter itself proved a tight contest between the Western Region rivals, with both sides creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough over 90 minutes, forcing the contest into penalties.

Medeama’s composure from the spot, combined with Kyei’s heroics, ensured the Mauve and Yellows advance to the last eight as they continue their pursuit of domestic silverware this season.

Attention now turns to the quarter-final draw as Medeama remain firmly in contention for another FA Cup title.
