Medeama SC fought back from behind to snatch a dramatic 2–1 victory over Vision FC, thanks to a sensational late brace from Salim Adams, returning to Tarkwa with maximum points and tightening their grip at the summit of the Ghana Premier League.
The encounter at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex lived up to its billing as a tense, end-to-end affair. Vision FC struck first in stoppage time of the first half, when Farouk Mohammed capitalised to hand the hosts a 1–0 lead going into the break, silencing the travelling Mauve and Yellow supporters.
Coach Tanko responded decisively after halftime, tweaking his setup as Medeama chased the equaliser. Derrick Fordjour made way for Richard Appiah in the 52nd minute, before another bold change followed in the 69th minute, with Salam introduced for Fatami Sulemana as the champions went all-out in attack.
The pressure eventually told.
With just 10 minutes remaining, Salim Adams rose to the occasion, finding the back of the net in the 80th minute to restore parity from a free kick behind the opponent's 18yard box and swing momentum firmly in Medeama’s favour. Vision FC struggled to cope with the relentless waves of attack, and deep into stoppage time, Salim struck again in the 90th minute in a similar fashion from a free kick further distance away from the first spot, completing a remarkable comeback and sparking wild celebrations among the Mauve and Yellows.
The victory further underlines Medeama’s title credentials and extending the club's unbeaten run to 16 consecutive games in the premier league (18 in all competitions). The 2022/2023 GPL champions now extend their lead at the top to seven points (40 points accrued), moving clear of second-placed Gold Stars, who were held to a goalless draw at home by Asante Kotoko.
Next up, Medeama return home to host Karela United in Week 20 — the only side to have beaten them this season — setting the stage for another high-stakes encounter in Tarkwa.
Champions respond. Leaders march on.
