Medeama Sporting Club returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kpando Heart of Lions in their Matchday 16 Ghana Premier League encounter, played at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

The Mauve and Yellows showed character, discipline and resilience to grind out all three points, silencing the Lions in their own backyard and easing the pain of last weekend’s home draw against Basake Holy Stars.

Early Breakthrough Sets the Tone

Coach Ibrahim Tanko named a balanced and determined side, with Felix Kyei starting in goal and skipper Mubarik Yussif marshalling the defence.

Medeama settled quickly into the game and were rewarded in the 20th minute when Kingsley Braye struck decisively to hand the visitors the lead. The forward’s well-taken finish crowned a positive spell and gave Medeama a firm grip on proceedings.

The Tarkwa-based side continued to push for a second goal, maintaining good shape and composure as Heart of Lions attempted to respond before the break. Medeama went into halftime deservedly ahead.

Second-Half Discipline and Tactical Control

The second half saw Heart of Lions increase the tempo in search of an equaliser, but Medeama remained compact and well-organised at the back.

Coach Tanko made timely substitutions to maintain intensity and control:

61’: Dzakpasu and Richard Appiah replaced Fuzy Taylor and Kelvin Nkrumah

78’: Nana Kofi Babil came on for goalscorer Kingsley Braye

81’: Sackey and Ebenezer Nkrumah replaced Derrick Fordjour and Osei Yaw

The changes helped Medeama absorb pressure while still posing a threat on the counter.

Maximum Points Secured

Despite late pressure from the hosts, Medeama’s defence stood firm, with Felix Kyei and his backline calmly dealing with everything thrown their way. The Mauve and Yellows saw out the contest with maturity to clinch a vital away victory.

The win pacifies Medeama supporters following last weekend’s stalemate and keeps the club top of the Ghana Premier League, pending the outcome of Aduana FC’s fixture.
