Medeama Sporting Club were held to a 1–1 draw by a resilient Basake Holy Stars side in their Matchday 15 Ghana Premier League fixture at the TnA Stadium, a contest that tested the Mauve and Yellows’ patience, character, and depth.
Strong Start, Missed Chances
Coach Ibrahim Tanko named a balanced starting XI led by Captain Mubarik Yussif, with Jaba Adams between the posts and attacking support from Derrick Fordjour, Prince Owusu, Kelvin Nkrumah and Abdul Salam.
Medeama began brightly and should have gone ahead in the opening exchanges. Fordjour, Fuzy Taylor and Kelvin Nkrumah all had clear looks at goal but failed to convert as the hosts dominated possession and tempo.
Holy Stars Strike First
Against the flow of play, Holy Stars broke the deadlock in the 29th minute. An aerial delivery into Medeama’s area was not dealt with cleanly by goalkeeper Jaba Adams, allowing the visitors to snatch the lead. From that moment, Holy Stars adopted a compact and frustrating approach, slowing the game and denying Medeama space between the lines.
Despite sustained pressure from the hosts, the visitors went into the break with a 1–0 advantage.
Tactical Changes and Missed Penalty
Coach Tanko reacted decisively at the start of the second half, introducing Salim Adams and Kingsley Braye for Derrick Fordjour and Prince Owusu to reinforce midfield control and attacking thrust.
The changes shifted the momentum, and Medeama’s pressure intensified. In the 62nd minute, a slick tactical switch and creative build-up, capped by Kingsley Braye’s individual brilliance, saw Kelvin Nkrumah fouled by Holy Stars goalkeeper Tayi inside the box. However, Mubarik Yussif’s resulting penalty was brilliantly saved, with the rebound also failing to find the net.
Further attacking intent followed as Richard Appiah replaced Abdul Salam, while Nana Kofi Babil came on for Fuzy Taylor, as Medeama threw everything forward.
Late Reward for Relentless Pressure
Persistence finally paid off in the 90th minute, when Kingsley Braye found the breakthrough to restore parity after waves of sustained pressure, igniting celebrations at the TnA Stadium.
Medeama continued to push for a dramatic winner in stoppage time, but Holy Stars held firm to ensure the contest ended 1–1.
Looking Ahead
The draw leaves Medeama Sporting Club one point behind league leaders Aduana FC, as focus now shifts to a crucial Matchday 16 away fixture against Kpando Heart of Lions next weekend.
