Medeama Sporting Club on Wednesday set the year 2025 in motion with a win over Karela United FC at the Tarkwa Na Aboso Stadium through captain Kofi Asmah in added time of the first half.

Medeama Sporting Club had their week 14 fixture of the Ghana Premier League rescheduled following a number of their players representing Ghana’s Black Galaxies at the CHAN 2025 qualifiers against Nigeria.

The match which saw a number of Medeama’s regulars missing in action for a number of football reasons, ranging from injuries and card accumulations. The game also marked Coach Evans Adotey’s first match since resuming the role of interim head coach, following the exist of Nebojsa Kapor as coach of the Tarkwa giants.

The Mauve and Yellows took the game to the visitors in anticipation for an early goal but were short of the decisive finishing touch to breakthrough.

The hosts were forced into early substitution when right back Ebenezer Nkrumah pulled muscle in the 20th minute and was replaced by Rospak graduate, Sampson Ekyem.

Following loads of ruined chances, Medeama SC eventually broke through three minutes into of additional time of the first half when Skipper Kofi Asmah headed home a cross from the left side of Medeama attacked to alter the technical team’s dressing room talks.

Coach Adotey’s side continued their inability to convert their chances into goals, with goalkeeper Felix Kyei virtually on holiday on his debut match of the season after a long injury.

Fatawu Sulemana made way for Bashiru Salifu, Kingsley Braye took the spot of striker Andy Kumi, whereas experienced Yusif Mubarak came on for David Boison. Derrick Fordjour also replaced by Richard Dwumah

Kingsley Braye, Babil and the Medeama attackers kept missing chances but could not be made to pay for by the visitors whose attack was impotent.

The game ended with Medeama picking the maximum points at stake to push their accumulated points to 24 to maintain their 7th position on the Ghana Premier League table with a game in hand.

Medeama SC’s midfielder, Prince Owusu was voted the NASCO Man of the match.

Medeama will however welcome Asantenii Kotoko on Sunday in the week 16 fixture of the season.
